Co Hurling League
Sean Treacys 0-17; Newport 1-11
Sean Treacys and Newport renewed old rivalries in their first round league clash in Kilcommon on Sunday and it was the West side who came out on top in a keenly contested clash which kept the good attendance entertained to the finish. Newport held the upper hand in the first half and a Colin Floyd goal in the 22nd minute was the difference at half time as they led 1-7 to 0-7. Treacys full forward Paddy Carey played a more roving role in the second and started to pick off points as well as his deadly accuracy from placed balls. Newport only managed four points in the second half to Treacys ten as the game ended with a three point victory for the west side.
