Catherine Shanahan R.I.P.
CLG Tulach Sheasta extends sympathy to the Shanahan family, Ballymackeogh, on the death of Kitty, mother of former Newport senior and intermediate hurler, Mike, and grandmother of current minor player, Cormac. Kitty’s uncle, Dan Troy, could be said to be the first Newport player to win an All Ireland when he helped Limerick to win the national senior hurling title in 1918, having previously played at juvenile and adult grades with Newport, while living in his native Ballymackeogh and before transferring to Claughaun. Indeed the Shanahan/Troy homestead was steeped in Gaelic traditions, although often at cross-purposes whether to support Tipperary, Limerick or Clare! Kitty’s gentle and kind personality will be missed by all who knew her, not least by her loving family. Cómhbhrón lena clann agus a cairde.
