The Munster U13 Doubles Handball Semi- final and finals took place this weekend. Tadhg Malone and Jim O’Mahony, Newport Handball Club were victorious in winning the Munster Final in Clare on Sunday 23rd February. Having won the County title a few weeks ago, they played the Munster Semi Final in Newport on Friday 21st February, where the boys were victorious over Cork pair, Oran Aherne (Boherbue) and Daniel Quinn (Ballydesmond), to qualify for the Munster Final. On Sunday 23rd they travelled to Kilkishen, Co Clare to play Clare representatives Iarla Kelliher (Tuamgraney) and Daragh Donovan (Kilkishen). The first game saw Clare race ahead but the boys pulled back a big margin to take the first game. The second game saw Newport dominate the early stages, but Clare fought back to win it, in what was a fantastic game of handball with long rallies and roars of encouragement from the large attendance to create an exciting atmosphere. The match went to a tie breaker where tensions were high in the alley. Tadhg and Jim had to dig deep to see off the favourites to bring home the Munster title winning the last game 15 to 13 points
