Under 19 Hurling: Newport and Kiladangan finished all square at the end of their Under 19 Hurling Championship game in Puckane on Wednesday last. The home side dominated the first half and looked the more accomplished outfit. They fired over points at will, mainly through Josh Slattery (0-8, 4f) and Chullain McGrath (0-4). Newport were fortunate to be only 3 points adrift at the interval (0-13 to 1-7), due mainly to a Brian Tobin goal just before the break when he finished to the net following some good build-up play. They gave a more workmanlike display in the second half and eventually drew level after 25 minutes. A point from each side during the remainder of the game saw the spoils shared in a tense finish. Final score: Kiladangan 0-17 Newport 1-14. Cillian Collins was Newport’s main scoring threat with 0-4, while Dan Ryan and Shane Flanagan worked hard all through. They play Lorrha Rovers in their final group match this Wednesday evening in Lacken Park @ 7:00 PM
