Mick won a County Junior Hurling championship medal with Newport in 1957, having been called up to the team for the county semi-final and final, even though still short of his seventeenth birthday. He contributed handsomely to the county victory, including getting his name on the scoresheet from his midfield position. His passing leaves just one surviving member of that Newport team which brought the first county hurling title to the parish. Having missed out on much of the sixties, through […] - [Catherine Shanahan R.I.P.](https://www.newportgaa.ie/2025/12/4515/): CLG Tulach Sheasta extends sympathy to the Shanahan family, Ballymackeogh, on the death of Kitty, mother of former Newport senior and intermediate hurler, Mike, and grandmother of current minor player, Cormac. Kitty’s uncle, Dan Troy, could be said to be the first Newport player to win an All Ireland when he helped Limerick to win the national senior hurling title in 1918, having previously played at juvenile and adult grades with Newport, while living in his native Ballymackeogh and before transferring to Claughaun. Indeed the Shanahan/Troy homestead was steeped in Gaelic traditions, although often at cross-purposes whether to support Tipperary, […] - [Beannachtaí na Nollag](https://www.newportgaa.ie/2025/12/beannachtai-na-nollag/): Christmas greetings to all our players, officials, supporters and sponsors. Martin was a highly respected member of the local community and contributed widely through his involvement in farming circles, amateur dramatics and sporting pursuits. He played with Mulcair Rovers in the late 1950s and was a member of the club committee. His passing severs another of the few surviving links of the team of that era. He also served on the Juvenile Committee of Newport GAA in the 1980s. He was a keen follower of Newport and Tipperary teams and in particular enjoyed […] - [9ú Nollaig](https://www.newportgaa.ie/2025/12/9u-nollaig/): Iomáint Scoile:  Crannchur an Chlub: Club lotto tickets are available to purchase from our stand at Sweeney’s Shop on Friday evenings from 3:30 to 7:00 PM and Saturday Morning from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Newport got off to the better start and held a four points to one lead after 10 minutes, through the efforts of Cillian Collins from frees and Charlie Tobin. However at the quarter hour mark the scores were level when Brian O’Meara rattled the net. Newport quickly replied with a James Moloney goal following some good build-up play and they seemed to be in a good position with a 4-point lead with 25 minutes gone. But the game […] - [Cruinniú Ginearálta Bliantúil](https://www.newportgaa.ie/2025/11/cruinniu-ginearalta-bliantuil-3/): Our AGM will take place in the Club Rooms on Friday November 28th at 8pm. Underfoot conditions were difficult at Lacken Park following heavy overnight rain and again shortly before throw-in, but the teams served up a very competitive and engaging contest. Newport settled more quickly and established early control, moving into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead by the twelfth minute. A 20th minute Charlie Tobin goal further strengthened their position, helping them to open an eight-point advantage approaching half time. Two late pointed frees for Moneygall/Clonakenny narrowed the gap leaving […] - [Cómhbhrón](https://www.newportgaa.ie/2025/11/comhbhron-15/): Members of CLG Tulach Sheasta and of the local community were saddened to hear of the passing last week of Jim Coffey, Cragg, Newport. Jim was one of the few to have played with both Mulcair Rovers and Newport and to serve on the committee of both clubs. Having lined out with the Cragg-based club before its demise, he then went on to play hurling and football with Newport in the 1960s. He won North Tipp and County junior football medals in 1965. He was a member of the club committee during the 1970s and ‘80s and was nominated by […] - [Tráth na gCeist Boird](https://www.newportgaa.ie/2025/11/trath-na-gceist-boird-2/): Great night had by all at the Tipperary GAA Quid Games Table quiz fundraiser on Friday 14th November. A Matt Madden goal in the 8th minute kept Portroe in touch, but Newport kept tagging on the points and after Callum Poole fired to the net after 24 minutes they stretched out to a 1-13 to 1-6 lead at the interval. Another green flag from Cillian Collins following a great run by Shane Flanagan straight from the throw-in and a further goal from Flanagan himself 3 minutes later put the game to bed. The visitors got off to the better start with two early points on the board within two minutes, but once James Moloney finished to the net in the sixth minute, Newport were into their rhythm. Davy Egan was a regular on Newport teams from the early 1950s. He was part of the Intermediate Hurling panel which won the North Tipp Championship Final in 1954, but lost following an objection. He won a County Junior Hurling medal in 1957. His passing leaves just two survivors of that team which brought the first county hurling title to Newport.
